New salad brand launches with striking cardboard packaging design

Natures Way Foods, a large supplier of quality salad, coleslaw, and food-to-go, has recently launched their newest product range, FLiNG. The idea behind FLiNG is to bring the biggest flavours from around the world and present them in a convenient yet mouth-watering salad. FLiNG makes the taste of the Mediterranean, Mexico and Thailand more accessible, brightening up dinner plates across the country.

To accompany their adventurous new brand, Natures Way Foods needed the help of an expert food packaging manufacturer to design and create the protective cardboard packaging needed for distribution, storage, and display. Already using the Encase team for many of their other brands, we were chosen to handle the project.

At Encase, we have endless experience working with new brands, and thanks to our in-house packaging design capabilities, we have the advantage of being able to help brands advance to market quickly. Our Test Drive Centres are the epitome of our business, they are a place for innovation, creativity and idea-building, and it’s where the magic was created for FLiNG.

After receiving the artwork for the primary salad bag, our design team were able to come together to design a shelf-ready pack that would house 6 salad bags, sitting perfectly on the shelf of some of the UK’s most well-known supermarkets. We selected one of the primary brand colours for the packaging design, using a subtle two-colour print method to ensure the focus remained on the product within. It provided a striking, yet sympathetic solution, not detracting from the product but instead complementing it when presented on shelf.

In-house packaging design

Keeping all packaging design work in-house, including the artwork and box design, allowed the team at Encase to iron out any issues quickly and efficiently, speeding up the process and allowing FLiNG to advance to market sooner. Additionally, we were able to design an SRP that we knew would work as expected, would be cost-efficient, and would minimise material waste, based on our knowledge of our own manufacturing process.

The final pack featured a crash-lock base eliminating the need for glue or tape, reducing production costs by speeding up line-side operations. The packaging was designed to be shelf-ready, improving shelf appeal and ease of use throughout the supply chain.

Overall, on-shelf packaging plays a big part in the success of a product, and we were absolutely delighted to have been involved in bringing the new FLiNG range to market.
